EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

SEPTEMBE= R 10, 2011

President, Terry Benhardt called meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

Next MYA Meeting Octob= er 13th, 2011; 7:30 p.m.; MYA Building=

Reviewed minutes from June 9th meeting. No discussion.<= /p>

Avery Finver made motion to accept minutes as written.

Bob Shagoury seconded.  Unanimously approved.  Minutes of June 9th accepted.

-Terry Benhardt stated second Shaw’s Fundraiser ended August 31st, spoke w/Mr. Lambert from Shaw’s on Pepsi/Frito Lay fundraiser- MYA waiting for check for proceeds, highest can be is $750.00;

-program directors did get email from Secretary that all programs send approved mont= hly minutes to the Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Executive Board;

-going to Town Hall, September 22nd to Town Council to accept pavilion = at Vet’s Park;

-Janet Cormier farewell on Wednesday, September 21st at Town Hall, 6 p.= m.; all are welcome to attend.  Th= e MYA bought a plaque, on file is the wording;

-Mike Ruggiero 2nd annual fundraiser Softball Tournament is Saturday, September 24th at three fields in Merrimack- Legion, Martel and Twardosky and two fields in Nashua;

-Mike Ruggiero dedication at Reeds Ferry, Sunday, September 25th for a tree dedication at 11 a.m. in memory of Mikey- a plaque on a granite stone = will identify the tree.  Soccer sta= ted they have a state recreation tournament going on that day.

-Twardosky field dedication on Saturday, October 15th at 11 a.m. at the Twardosky field on Amherst Road.  MYA Executive Board had bought two aluminum benches in memory of Jos= eph & Josephine Twardosky and is purchasing a bronze plaque for the dedicat= ion.

-town is having a ceremony on Sunday, September 11th at the Abby Griff= in Park, on file.  Terry Benhardt= asked for a moment of silence from the membership.

 

Youth Baseball Director – Paul Williams.

Merrimack Youth Baseball elections were last night and Paul Williams is the new director.  Paul Williams gave = his past history in the baseball program.  Have a 14 member board and about half will be new; first week of Oct= ober is MYB’s first meeting as a new board.  Small Fall Ball league this year; instructional clinics starting next weekend and will be done by October 15<= sup>th.  It was reminded E.B. needs new boa= rd listing.

 

Gary Keay – Treasurer.

-read treasurer’s report ending 8/31, on file.  $5,192.15 total of written checks = this month;

All CD/Money Markets are at Sovereign Bank- Lacrosse, MYB and Basketball except= the MYB’s Skeffington CD is still at Bank of America in a 9-month CD that just rolled over.  As soon as = the Skeffington Committee gets their 501c3, the money will be moved over.<= /o:p>

Football and Soccer got their allotments and E.B. took half of theirs.  Will give Wrestling their allotmen= t.

-Jeff Ditman, MYA CPA is working on the financial reports, June 30 report;

All accruals from the programs are into MYA CPA, Jeff Ditman.=

 

Avery Finver – Vice President.

-fields report- all fields have been released;&nbs= p; relationship w/Adam Jacobs/DPW is very strong and he doesn’t m= ind working w/the directors, just keep Avery Finver, Vice President in the loop= .

Kollsman- will get Softball the dates that Kollsman will have a tent set up for an ev= ent; Softball stated Kollsman did this last year and no problem.  Kollsman has let a group on their = fields from 3-5 p.m., no problem w/MYA.

Vet’s Park review- Vet’s look awesome according to Football Director, Phil DeGregorio;

Amtech field will be evaluated at the end of the season;

Reeds Ferry- will ask Adam Jacobs to speak to the school about their coaches being kinder to Reeds- if MYA is not using the field, then the school cannot use = it either.

 

Football/Cheerleaders Director – Phil DeGregorio.

In season- had first weekend of games; have sent game schedules to Vice Presid= ent and he is aware of conflicts.  First game of season- junior high team has first game at MHS, September 10th= at 6 p.m. and ninety minutes later the jv and varsity.  Thrilled with Vet’s and Adam Jacobs; now have a dumpster at Vet’s.  DPW mowed the field and Football w= ill restripe; scoreboard, announcer’s booth and pa all worked fine.  Pavilion has been moved.  Certificate of insurance is on fil= e with everyone.

 

Soccer Representative – Kristina DeBruin.

Opening this weekend; 649 players and 55 teams in the recreational program.  U6 and U8 leagues are huge with 28= teams between the two.  Travel has 13 teams with 169 players.  U16 i= nner city team plays teams like Manchester.

 

Wrestling Director – Mike Brody.

Gearing up; set registration dates; very beginning of October will be start of registrations.  Added a Wrestl= ing Information Night on September 28th at the middle school.  Submitted to the school district Wrestling’s flyer for approval, on file, then will pass it out.  First weekend of November is openi= ng of wrestling season; will be at Thorntons Ferry in the APR.  Will get certificate of insurance = to John Schneider and copy Terry Benhardt and Karen Halvatzes; will get new bo= ard listing once fill vacant board member spots and also did receive the email about sending approved monthly minutes, working on this also.

 

Girls Softball Director – Chris Chapman.

Had elections Tuesday night and Chris Chapman notified his board that he will o= nly be there as Director for one more year.&nb= sp; Fall season started last weekend and had away games.  First home game is this Saturday at Kollsman.  Item #1- will get n= ew board listing to the proper E.B. members.&= nbsp; Fall Ball doubled in size over the last two seasons; has a little ov= er 60 players this year; five teams from Merrimack w/twenty teams total in the league.  Reeds #5- any vision = on that- Avery Finver stated town is not allowed to cut it, only the school ca= n do it.  Get Tom Touseau, Adam Jac= obs and MYA together to figure it out and get it viable for the spring.  MYA has the Superintendent’s support and asked MYA to handle it this way.

Chris Chapman says Adam Jacobs and his crew did a great job at Kollsman – t= hank you.

 

Lacrosse Director – Gage Perry.

Gage Perry is the new Lacrosse Director and he introduced the Assistant Director, Kevin Beaton and between them one will be at the monthly E.B. meetings.  First meeting is in two weeks to g= et the season going.  Will compile new board listing, item #1, once they fill some vacant positions.  Last year had 200 players in the program; U15-18- three new girls on the team and came in 3rd in = the state.  U15 Boys came in 1st in the state and the U13 Boys came in 3rd in the state.  State says all coaches not to be professional trained; level 1 training all for head coaches and MYA is requiring their assistant coaches also to be level 1 training.  Been doing the winter program in M= arch; working on inventory and will give to John Schneider.  NHYL is group lacrosse is involved= in and have liability and medical through them.

 

No written report or representative from Youth Basketball.

 

Don De Beradinis – Assistant Secretary.

Asked for month that programs have elections- June is Lacrosse and Basketball; September is Softball and Baseball and November is Football/Cheer; Soccer a= nd Wrestling;

Have all the spring registration lists, thank you; have for fall Softball;<= /o:p>

-membership list as of 6/30/11- members- 2,151 and participants- 3,472.

 

Tim Kachmar - Member at Large and MYA Parks & Recreation Liaison - absent.<= o:p>

 

John Schneider – Member at Large.

-inventories- have all except Lacrosse and are getting date corrections from Softball and Basketball;

-insurance certificates review- need Wrestling and Basketball;

-audit schedule- will be resuming this w/the new directors as well as the other pr= ograms.

 

 

Arbitrator & Officials Liaison – Bob Shagoury.

-reviewed monthly sex offenders, no change;

-no major issues;

MYB needs an equipment director; see Paul Williams, President if interested.

 

 No Old Business or New Business.

 

Avery Finver motion to adjourn.  Kar= en Halvatzes seconded.  No discus= sion.

Passed unanimously.  Meeting adjourne= d at 9:15 p.m.
